What You'll Find in Regal Security Insights

Regal Security Insights is Regal Security's library of practical security guidance for property managers, condominium boards, strata councils and business owners in Toronto, the GTA and Metro Vancouver. Each article answers one question, cites its sources (Ontario e-Laws, BC Laws, the Toronto Police Service and Statistics Canada) and shows the date it was last checked.

We write about what we do every day: guarding condos, offices, retail sites, healthcare facilities and construction projects, running mobile patrols, and training new guards in our 40-hour security licence course. When the law or the data changes, we update the article and say so at the top.

What you won't find here: made-up statistics, scare tactics or claims we can't back up.

What is the legal job title for a security guard in Ontario?

"Security guard." Section 40 of the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005 bars licensed security guards, and the businesses that sell their services, from using police-style terms such as "police," "law enforcement" and "detective," and from related title variations.

Where does the crime data on this site come from?

From the Toronto Police Service Public Safety Data Portal and Statistics Canada. Each figure is shown with its source, its date range and the date we last checked it, and our Toronto crime page is refreshed every quarter.

Does Regal Security work in both Toronto and Vancouver?

Yes. Our head office is at 2540 Matheson Blvd. E., Mississauga, and our Langley office serves Metro Vancouver. Regal is licensed in Ontario for security guards and private investigators, and licensed in BC for security guard services.
