Regal Security® Training Academy Training Is Part of How We Work
The Regal Security® Training Academy is Regal's registered training facility for PSISA-compliant security guard training and ongoing staff development.
"Training and Development" is one of the seven core elements of Regal's Crown Service Model of Excellence. Every guard we deploy gets the training and ongoing support to do the job well and grow a career in security. That means mandatory in-class training, on-the-job training, and progressively more specialized courses for the different sites and clients we serve.
Regal Security® is a registered training facility and conducts all mandatory security guard training in compliance with Ontario's Private Security and Investigative Services Act (PSISA). Specialized training runs at our own facility or through one of our authorized training partners.
40 Hours to Get Licensed, Then 40 More With Regal
- 01
Provincial basic training
In Ontario, basic training must be at least 40 hours, including emergency first aid and CPR. Candidates then pass the provincial test and apply for their licence.
- 02
Regal orientation
24 hours on workplace violence, WHMIS, incident reporting, Ontario's Trespass to Property Act and customer service.
- 03
Supervised field training
New guards spend 16 hours doing practical field work at sites where a supervisor observes them.
- 04
Ongoing development
Specialist courses build skills for particular sites and for career progression.
A Two-Way Decision
The two-phase orientation gives both sides a fair look. A new guard can decide at any point that the work isn't right for them, and Regal can decide whether to continue the employment process. That's part of how we recruit carefully and put the right people on every site.
Your First Step to an Ontario Security Guard Licence
We're not accepting new registrations for the basic security guard course right now.
When it runs, our basic course is four mandatory days of core security training, plus an optional fifth day for Standard First Aid and CPR for anyone who doesn't already hold a valid certificate. (Ontario lets you skip the first aid and CPR portion if you already hold a valid certificate from a St. John Ambulance or WSIB-certified instructor.)
We're watching for updates, including the province's work on new standardized training curricula, and will post news here.

What Our Training Means for Your Property
When you hire Regal Security, the guard at your front desk or on patrol has done more than pass the provincial test. They've completed our orientation on workplace violence, incident reporting and the Trespass to Property Act, worked supervised shifts before working alone, and kept learning through courses like de-escalation and first aid.
Training continues on site. Mobile supervisors carry out scheduled and unscheduled inspections, and every shift is recorded in Kovrra, the security ERP Regal uses, where clients can see time-stamped clock-ins and clock-outs and live guard GPS locations in their own portal.
